José Luis Campana was born Argentinian in 1949 but established in Paris since 1975 and was a student there of Ivo Malec, Betsy Jolas, Pierre Schaeffer and Guy Reibel. He isn’t among the most recognized “avant garde” composers on the French scene – not meant as a criticism there is a lot of competition.
I’ve reviewed one CD of Campana’s music and enjoyed his “avant-gardism”: Cybelia CY 894 (1992), with “My” for flautist and pianist (both playing percussion as well), “Imago” for 16-part chorus and magnetic tape, and the (somewhat dryer) Second Quartet.
The composer has a thorough website, with many audio files of his works and discography.
