Michel Corboz ( (1934-2021, Swiss choral conductor)

The Swiss conductor Michel Corboz (1934-2021) was one of the lynchpins of the then French label Erato (it’s been since sold to an international conglomerate, and lost its unique identity / soul) from the mid-1960s to 1990, alongside (to limit myself to conductors) Claudio Scimone, Jean-François Paillard, Theodor Guschlbauer, Alain Lombard and Armin Jordan. He was chiefly a choral conductor: I am aware of only one recording of his of a work for orchestra alone, and not involving a chorus: Haydn’s three Harpsichord Concertos with Christiane Jaccottet, a recording from 1975 that was reissued to CD only (to the best of my knowledge) in 2023, on Erato’s 36 CD-set 5054197186783 “Michel Corboz The Complete Erato Recordings – Classical & Romantic Eras” (link will open new tab to my discographic review).

In the review I list the complete contents of that set, with sources of the recordings. In fact, together with its companion 74 CD-set 0190296217463 Michel Corboz The Complete Erato Recordings Baroque & Renaissance Eras (link to set’s listing on Discogs.com), it provides a complete discography of Corboz’ recordings not only for Erato (1969-1989), but also (which the sets’ titles fail to indicate) for the short-lived FNAC Music (1993-1997).

To complement that, see my discography of Corboz on his last two labels, the Swiss Cascavelle (1989-1997) and the French Mirare (2006-2014).
