Konrad Boehmer was still alive when I posted my scathing review of his Piano Works recorded by Nicolas Hodges (brave pianist!) on BVHaast CD 0901, in December 2013. He died on 4 October 2014. I hope it isn’t reading my review that killed him. Boehmer was a pupil of Stockhausen in Darmstadt at the end of the 1950s, and you hear it. His piano music sounds like a caricature of “contemporary music”, with electronics “covered by the din of the furiously pounding piano”. The CD is one of the rare ones in my collection that went direct to the “for sale” bin. It is still there, over a decade later.
