John Dowland (1563-1626, English)

I’ll flesh out this composer entry later. I have much more Dowland in my collection than I’ve reviewed, and I’ve reviewed more on Amazon than I’ve had time to transfer over here. Dowland needs no introduction anyway.

So far, just his famous The Earl of Essex Galliard (from the collection Lachrimae or Seven Teares) and a madrigal (and typical Dowland title), Burth forth my teares (from the 1697 First Booke of Songs & Ayres), on a fine CD mainly devoted to the music of Frenc composer (and probable Dowland acquaintance) Charles Tessier, “Carnets de voyage”, by Le Poème Harmonique under Vincent Dumestr, Alpha 100.
