Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621, Dutch)

I haven’t heard and reviewed much Sweelinck I’m afraid, and what I’ve heard and reviewed isn’t significant: two arrangements for trombone of choral works, played by the Dutch New Trombone Collective in a 3-CD collection from Etcetera, KTC 1355 (2007). Time time time, choices choices choices, gaps gaps gaps. But I’v recently (2016) acquired his complete keyboard works (NM Classics 92119, barcode 8713309921199), which I now have to find time to listen to, and I need to get his choral works: the three volumes, performed by the Nederlands Chamber Choir under such luminaries as Herreweghe, Christie, Koopman, Van Nevel and Peter Phillips, originally released by NM Classics (92003, 92010, 92015) have been reissued in a single set by Etcetera, KTC 1426, barcode 8711801103013. But, seeing the price at which it is offered on Amazon’s marketplace, I may be better off looking for the original NM editions and hunting for bargains. But let me not even consider Glossa’s complete choral works of Sweelinck with the Gesualdo Consort under Harry van der Kamp, “only” 17 CDs including 12 for the Psalms alone (GCD 922407)…
