Django Bates (1960, English)

I love the name – I wish it were mine, or at least I’d chose it as an alias for my stage acts. I’m not so fond of the little music I’ve heard of Bates – his “Peculiar Terms of Physical Intimacy” for string quartet, played by The Smith Quartet on their recital CD of pieces in “Classical meets Dance- and World-music” style, appropriately titled “Dance”, on Signum Classics (2011). It’s inspired by a jig, and it sounds like a romping jig. It’s entertaining, but not much more.
