More attractive edition elsewhere

Let me make this one short:
1. There’s controversy around the merits of this version with Klemperer, Menuhin’s 4th studio recording, from 1966. I think it’s great.
2.
The recording’s first CD reissue was on EMI’s mid-price collection Studio, CDM 7 69001 2, in 1987, with no fillers and for a short TT of 45 minutes. Complements are welcome then. But there’s a much more attractive edition than the two listed here with their two Klemperer-conducted Overtures, not only because it sells for less than a buck at the time of writing, but also because it pairs the Violin Concerto with the two Beethoven Romances,
recorded with the Philharmonia Orchestra under John Pritchard in 1960, on the EMI’s mid-price collection which succeeded Studio: Studio Plus CDM 7 64324 2, from 1992 (link will open new tab to my detailed review). Interpretively they aren’t so good, as Menuhin offers a much too solemn and sentimental approach for the music’s own good. But the pairing remains more coherent and sastisfactory than these two Overtures – and the price is even more satisfactory, of course. You will find under that entry my very detailed review, expounding what faults critics have found with Menuhin-Klemperer’s version of the Violin Concerto, and why I think they are entirely off the mark.
